About "At the desk of:

In the ‘At the desk of’ section, answers
an inBrainer five questions to ask him/her
to know better.

Maybe you already know us, having worked with us for years. You may have no idea who works at inBrain. Our team is what makes us unique, which is why we like to tell a little more about the people behind the products!

This time we introduce you to Kris Heijnen, full stack developer at inBrain.

How would you describe an inBrainer?

‘Cheerful, optimistic and fanatical! And social too. Everyone interacts here in a very sociable way.’

What is the best product you have made/the one you are most proud of and why?

‘We now have quite a few learning portals online. I started working on an app a while ago that we can use as an internal tool to bring together all the technical information about these learning portals. For example, we can keep track of which portals are due for an update and see what new features will be added when we update. I am quite proud of this because this was a challenging job and I now use it almost on a daily basis.’

How would you describe your job to a five-year-old child?

‘Ugh, I already sometimes find it difficult to explain to adults what a web developer does, but here’s an attempt: when you sit at a computer and you press a button, something fun often happens! For example, you can start a game, or watch a movie. But how does the computer know it should do that? That’s because I can tell the computer that when you press that button something should happen. And I do that with a language that the computer understands, a programming language is called.

If you could snap your fingers and become an expert at something, what would it be?

‘What a good question. I would love to be a finger-tip UX expert, though, and know how to make a very intuitive user interface for the end user. Something I’m already engaged in, of course, but would like to learn more about.

Which (company) anecdote sticks with you best?

‘One day suddenly there was a large, wooden canoe in the office. Now when I asked about it, no one could really tell me why the canoe was there. It now serves as a planter and it actually looks cozy.

More about Kris

As a developer at inBrain, I am involved daily in building learning portals. For me, programming is not just a matter of bits and bytes, but rather an art form. Creating digital products is a way to unleash my creativity.

In my free time, you can find me behind the guitar. And also within the inBrain band, I take on the role of guitarist. In addition, you will often find me in the kitchen. My specialty? Fig cake!
