About "At the desk of:

In the “At the desk of” section,
an inBrainer answers five questions to get to know him/her
better.

Maybe you already know us, having worked with us for years. You may have no idea who works at inBrain. Our team is what makes us unique, which is why we like to tell a little more about the people behind the products!

This time we introduce you to Thiemen de Groot, digital designer and illustrator at inBrain.

How would you describe your job to a 5-year-old child?

Making fun things and drawing a lot! Of course it’s not as simple as that, but that’s what it comes down to in the end! Only in different ways, with different materials and programs. Sometimes with a large set of pencils on a white sheet of paper, other times with a digital pen on an iPad. Or with various design programs on my laptop.

What is your favorite way to unwind after a busy work week?

Rest… With the many hours of screen time these days, that is becoming increasingly rare. In fact, I almost have to schedule those moments. Fortunately, inBrain helps me quite a bit with this. I am a weekly apprentice at a studio to further develop myself in drawing on paper. Here I always get very relaxed, socializing with the group mates about things and meanwhile working hard on the next piece of art. I also have a large circle of friends, family and colleagues around me who are always up for doing fun things, fooling around or going for a walk in beautiful nature!

What’s always in your bag when you’re at work?

My lunchbox shaped like a Lego brick and a pencil case full of pencils! Also, of course, my iPad and laptop cannot be missing. With those tools, everything should be just fine and we can come up with a solution to most problems.

What is missing from the inBrain office that you have at home (or vice versa)?

I think it’s actually rather the other way around…. Chaos! There’s always something happening in the office, you can always have a chat with someone, make mischief or put on some nice music! At home it’s more like an oasis of calm. Of course that’s very nice from time to time, but I secretly thrive on the chaos of the office. It gives me more incentive to go for something full on.

If inBrain were an orchestra, what would your role be?

The one standing next to the orchestra behind the bar tapping a beer…. 🙂 I love listening to music and am a real music fanatic! But I’m not very musical myself, so I prefer to outsource that to other people who can.

More about Thiemen

As a digital designer and illustrator at inBrain, I deal with developing concepts and ideas into full-fledged final products. I can come up with a creative concept with little content, taking into account different pros and cons and target groups. This I eventually work with one of the educational experts to develop into various digital expressions. You can think of: animations, illustrations, e-learning, infographics or an interactive pdf.

Because of my education in graphic design at the Grafisch Lyceum Utrecht, with a specialization in illustration, and my education in Digital Media at the HKU, I am pretty much at home in all markets. In fact, I know a little bit about many different things! I prefer drawing, but I also find more technical jobs such as interactive PDF very fascinating. I prefer work that is a bit varied, so I can always come up with new ideas, switch quickly between projects and maintain my creativity.
